Check out the show in a nutshell.
Monday Night Raw: 8 pm EST
Raw General Manager Kurt Angle comes out and says he just got word that Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will not be there tonight after all. Angle says Lesnar had transportation issues, or he was sick, or something. Roman Reigns’ music hits and he comes out to the ring. He tells Angle he’s not surprised. Lesnar didn’t show up for work today or last week. Reigns asks Angle what the repercussions are going to be. Reigns says everybody else in the world has consequences to not showing up to work but Lesnar is Vince McMahon’s boy so nothing will happen.
Reigns says Vince is the real problem anyways, not Angle. He walked by Vince backstage and he didn’t even have the courtesy to let him know what was going on tonight. Reigns had to hear it from Angle, live. Reigns says he refuses to be disrespected by Vince McMahon. Then he drops the mic and walks to the backstage area. Cameras follow as he approaches Vince in the production area and starts mad dogging him and confronting him. Vince tells Reigns they can go talk in his office and he tells the crew to cut to commercial.
Back from commercial and Renee Young is standing outside Vince’s office waiting for a result. Reigns comes out and walks right by her, refusing to answer questions. Vince then comes out and tells Renee that Brock Lesnar is not his boy. He’s not Paul Heyman’s boy. He’s only Brock Lesnar’s himself’s boy. Vince says, though, that he had to remind Reigns of a hard truth. Something The Rock used to say: know your role. Because Lesnar does, indeed, have special privileges and Vince thinks he’s earned those privileges.
The bottom line is that Reigns will be facing Lesnar at WrestleMania. Also, for the disrespect Reigns just displayed, he’s been temporarily suspended.
Singles Match: Sasha Banks vs. Sonya Deville
Match gets underway and Banks takes control early. She tosses Deville out of the ring as it cuts to commercial.
Back again and Deville is putting a beating on Banks. She puts Banks in a rear-naked choke. Banks stands up and drives Deville back into the corner. Banks tries to catch a breather as Deville comes after her. Banks hops up to the top rope and hits double-knees. Near-fall. Mandy Rose comes jumping up on the apron but Bayley comes over and puts a stop to it. Banks gets Deville in the Bank Statement and forces her to tap out.
Winner: Sasha Banks
Bayley, who had been out by Banks’ side reluctantly, takes her leave immediately as Banks is still celebrating. There is still tension between them after Elimination Chamber. Suddenly, Absolution surrounds the ring and they move on Banks, ganging up and laying a beating on her. Absolution stands over a battered Banks as their music plays.
Intercontinental Champion The Miz is in the ring for an edition of Miz TV. Miz says his guests tonight are a couple guys who Kurt Angle has been hellbent of giving opportunity after opportunity. They are his opponents are WrestleMania: Seth Rollins and Finn Balor. Miz introduces Rollins as his first guest and then Balor second. As they get seated, Miz tells them they look comfortable. Miz says to Rollins that he shouldn’t be so comfortable sitting across from the guy who ruined the 1-on-1 WrestleMania match between Miz and Rollins.
Rollins tells Miz it’s obvious what he’s trying to do. Rollins tells Miz to just deal with it, it’s a triple threat match. Miz then turns to Balor and says maybe he’s the one who deserves the 1-on-1 spotlight. Balor says that move isn’t going to work on him either. Miz tells them they’ve acting like he’s the bad guy and he asks if he’s the bad guy. The crowd answers, “Yes!” Miz tells Balor that Rollins is just a backstabber anyways, if he doesn’t believe that, just ask The Shield.
Rollins tells Miz to shut up. They don’t need any help getting hyped up for this, it’s the Intercontinental Championship. Rollins tells Balor he doesn’t have a chance either. Balor asks Rollins what happened the last time they competed for a title (Balor beat him for the Universal Championship). Rollins tells him to stop living in the past and they’re going to rectify that in four weeks. Balor says, “Four weeks?” and suggests they can throw down right now. They go face-to-face. Rollins ends up superkicking Balor and leaving him laid out in the ring.
Miz grins from ringwide, having escaped the fracas.
John Cena comes out to the ring. He tells everyone he has found his road to WrestleMania. He says it’s not the ideal path but it’s different. He says he knows he’s had opportunity after opportunity – and no excuses. He came up short. The crowd starts to chant, “Undertaker!” Cena smirks and thanks the crowd and says he hopes the people in the bac are listening. But ultimately Cena says he will not be contributing to WrestleMania this year. He’s still going to attend but he won’t have a match. This year he’ll be going as a fan. That may seem like a surprise but the WWE is the essence of the event. He’s not going to be all boo-boo faced and sad. He’s fired up, just like all the fans.
Cena runs up into the stands and starts chants with people. He gets a “This is awesome chant!” but then he tries to start a “Let’s go Roman!” chant but people just boo. Then Cena goes back to the ring and says, because they won’t hear it at ‘Mania, let’s do a Cena chant. Cena says “Let’s go Cena!” and the crowd goes “Cena sucks!” Then Cena ponders for a moment and decides “screw it”, and then he challenges The Undertaker to a match at WrestleMania. Cena makes it clear that the officials in the back are resisting him on this, but they haven’t shut his mic off yet. So he says it a few more times. He challenges The Undertaker to match.
Mic still on. Cena says that’s because it’s really The Undertaker that’s stopping it from happening. Cena tells ‘Taker to get over his ego and stop hiding behind his lame excuses. Cena tells ‘Taker he is not washed up or broken down, if he was he wouldn’t be posting work-out videos online. Cena then asks the fans if they want to see ‘Taker kick his ass at ‘Mania and they erupt in a chorus of cheers. Cena says he’d also like to see Taker try it. He leaves the ball in ‘Takers court but he says, if it were him, he’d want one more match.
Cena drops the mic and heads to the back as the crowd chants “One more match!”
