Ever since the brand extraction returned, it has allowed for more superstars to be featured. That’s the beauty of splitting the roster into two brands. Those superstars who are talented sometimes get lost in the shuffle when Roman Reigns and John Cena are around. As of now, these are the top stars on SmackDown.
During most of Chris Jericho’s career, he’s been considered one of the best. His most recent run was one of the most enjoyable as he played the perfect heel and face, mixed with lots of comedy. He’s barely been on SmackDown since the brand extension, but he makes those few appearances count. We saw Kevin Owens write Chris Jericho out of storylines after regaining the United States Championship. Then, he made a surprise return and took part in what some are calling the greatest SmackDown event as AJ Styles regained the title from Owens and Jericho in a triple threat. There was always debate if he could succeed in the largest wrestling promotion and he’s accomplished that obstacle without any problems. His program with John Cena lasted over six months and showed that he can hang with the biggest of stars. Styles already seems ready to be the face of SmackDown. Maybe, he can replace Undertaker for representing the blue brand. [Image: Photo via WWE.com] There was talk of Baron Corbin getting a major push this year and winning Money in the Bank solidified those beliefs. With a SummerSlam match against John Cena looming, Corbin could be WWE Champion before the month ends. I almost see Shinsuke Nakamura winning the title from Jinder Mahal, only for Corbin to cash in. Corbin gets the belt and already has a previous feud going with Nakamura to help elevate him even further. Despite being around for several years now, the three always find a way to keep things fresh. They started as heels and fans naturally turned them into faces. As separate wrestlers, it’s almost like they get lost on the roster. As a solid unit, they’re nearly unstoppable after watching them make tag team history on RAW. Since joining SmackDown, New Day have already won the titles and look to once again make history. [Image: Photo via WWE.com] From the entrance to in-ring style, fans are drawn to Shinsuke Nakamura. He was very successful in NXT and since being added to SmackDown, nothing has slowed down. Nakamura just cleanly pinned John Cena on TV, which happens every seven years. Not even six months on the main roster and Nakamura is already getting a WWE Championship shot. At this rate, he might be wearing the gold on more than occasion. [Image: Photo via WWE.com]
