WWE is campaigning for an Emmy Awards nomination, according to Forbes, as the company will host its first-ever “For Your Consideration” Emmy event on June 6th.
The guest list includes select members of the Los Angeles media and will feature appearances from top WWE stars like Ronda Rousey, the Bella Twins, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, The New Day, Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair and others.
Private screenings will be shown of Raw 25, the Mixed Match Challenge and WWE 24: Empowered. The reasons for these three choices are clear enough. Raw 25 because that was a major historical television milestone that no other show has ever accomplished. The Mixed Match Challenge demonstrated that women and men could carry the water of a show equally. And Forbes’ choice for WWE’s best hope, WWE 24: Empowered, because it focuses on the Women’s Revolution in wrestling and such narratives are popular in today’s culture.
Forbes admits that pro wrestling has always been the “bastard child” of entertainment and that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has never been likely to give WWE a fair shake because of that perception. It might look bad on them to try and laud some kind of travelling circus act. But, stranger things and all that.
Stephanie McMahon took to Twitter and posted this photo of her beside a giant Emmy, suggesting that it was about the right size for WWE:
