PWInsider reports that Jim Ross has been signed to a new WWE deal that will commence with him calling the Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar Universal Title match this Sunday at WrestleMania.
Post-WrestleMania, PWI has learned that Ross will be used in a Legends capacity as a voice in documentaries and other WWE Network material. He will also occasionally commentate on matches, however his capacity in that regard is as yet unknown.
This new deal will now preclude Ross’ involvement with the World of Sport revival that will start taping in Great Britain this coming May. Ross was part of the commentating during the pilot on New Year’s Eve and had even contributed to a lot of creative and production aspects of the show. PWI states that the possibility of Ross calling a series for ITV may have been a catalyst for this new WWE deal.
Ross will apparently still be a voice on AXS TV’s New Japan shows, as it is reported this new WWE contract does not seem to affect his status with that series.
Despite the timing of this news, the new WWE contract is said to have been offered and signed prior to the recent passing of Ross’ wife Jan. One of the sources stated that the deal was reached five weeks ago.
Ross has been making appearances all week in Orlando and will continue to do so as the weekend progresses towards Sunday’s WrestleMania extravaganza.
