Monday Night Raw: 8 pm EST
Show opens up and Raw General Manager Kurt Angle comes out to the ring. He reveals that Braun Strowman may be out of action up to 6 months with a shattered elbow at the hands of Roman Reigns. Angle then asks who will be next to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship? He announces that at Extreme Rules there will be a Fatal 5-Way match to determine the No. 1 contender. The competitors will be Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Finn Balor, and Roman Reigns.
Angle is about to leave when Reigns’ music hits. Reigns gets in the ring and tells Angle they don’t need a Fatal 5-Way match because he’s the No. 1 contender. Reigns beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania. He’s beaten Braun Strowman. He’s the only one who can beat Lesnar. At this, Finn Balor comes out and tells Reigns that he was the first Universal Champion and he was never beaten for the title. If Reigns wants a crack at The Beast, he needs to get behind Balor.
Reigns tells Balor that he has a lot of heart but he doesn’t have the instincts to beat a guy like Lesnar. Balor replies that he already beat Reigns his first night on the big show so clearly. Samoa Joe then comes out and tells everybody they’re wrong and that he is actually the one who deserves the shot. Then Bray Wyatt appears and continues this trend of claiming the No. 1 contendership for himself. Finally, Seth Rollins comes out and says that this New Jersey crowd didn’t come here to listen to a bunch of talking… Rollins came here to fight Joe.
Rollins rushes the stage and starts brawling with Joe. He bests Joe and sends him into retreat. Then Bray attacks Rollins from behind. Balor and Reigns get involved and now everybody is brawling everybody. Balor hits a slingblade on Reigns and sends him rolling out of the ring. Then Balor runs and flips over the top rope, landing on Bray, Reigns and Rollins out on the floor.
Back from commercial break and Rollins, Balor and Reigns are arguing about the events that just went down in the ring. Angle comes in to settle the dispute. He gives Rollins a match with Bray Wyatt and tells Balor and Reigns that they will be wrestling each other.
Singles Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus
Bell sounds and Jeff comes out hard and starts wailing on Sheamus. Jeff knocks Sheamus out of the ring. As Jeff flies with a slingshot cross body to the outside, Sheamus catches him and flings him into the barricade. Commercial break.
Back again and Sheamus lands a jumping knee off the turnbuckle. It had been all Sheamus during the break. Jeff tries to fight back but Sheamus hits a powerslam. Finally, Jeff does mount a comeback and hits Sheamus with a series of moves from his set and then pins for a 2-count. Jeff is about to go for the Twist Of Fate but Sheamus evades it and hits a brutal running knee to Jeff’s face. The thud of knee against face rings out and Sheamus pins for a 2-count of his own.
Sheamus comes off the top rope and Jeff catches him with a stunner on the way down. Near-fall. Some confusion happens as Cesaro and Matt end up on the apron. Sheamus hits Cesaro inadvertently with a Brogue Kick and then hit his intended target, Matt, afterwards. He turns around and Jeff hits him with a Twist Of Fate and Swanton Bomb for the victory.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
