Paige spoke with Edge and Christian on their Pod of Awesomeness podcast about the prospect of her ever returning to ring-action. She told them the medical opinion is that she may not be healthy enough to wrestle again for a couple decades.
“My doctor said, maybe, in 15 to 20 years time I could return,” she said. This would put Paige at around 45 years of age by the time she could be cleared, an idea the former Divas and NXT Women’s Champion isn’t enthused about.
“I don’t think I want to wrestle in 15 to 20 years time,” she said.
Paige says people have been asking her about a return, often citing Daniel Bryan’s recent return as evidence that it’s possible. Bryan was forced into retirement and was never expected to return either, until recently when he made an inspiring comeback. Paige points out, however, that Bryan’s injury is not at all the same as what she’s suffering from.
“People say ‘you’ll have the Daniel Bryan thing’ but the thing with Daniel Bryan is his problem was concussion,” she said. “Ours is spinal, so it’s different.”
Paige had been on a layoff due to the injury for over a year. She returned last November, only to be re-injured the following month. News of her forced retirement surfaced in early January but Paige didn’t announce it publicly until the April 9th edition of Monday Night Raw. The following night on Smackdown, Shane McMahon introduced Paige as the new general manager for the blue brand.
